About Us
The Aberdeen Amateur Radio Society was founded more than 75 years ago to bring together radio enthusiasts from around the north-east of Scotland, whatever their interests in the hobby. The Society caters for all ages, with help and encouragement for newcomers willingly given. Visitors are most welcome to come along and find out what is involved in amateur radio and the premises used in Aberdeen have easy access and facilities for those with disabilities too.
The Society currently has around sixty members and meetings are held on most Thursday evenings throughout the year. The programme of meetings varies in nature and topic; you will find talks, demonstrations, on-air operating sessions and sometimes even non-radio related topics! The first Thursday of the month is reserved for the renowned members' Junk Sale where members can bring surplus or unwanted radio and electronic equipment, which is auctioned off at very reasonable prices. In some cases members choose to donate monies raised from the sale of these items to Society funds.

The Society organises several outside events between Spring and Autumn. Some of these are operating portable at special locations, club contests and for testing homemade antennas etc.
Some of our members give up their time for educational purposes by providing training for the three levels of amateur radio licence. Help and assistance is also available for repairs to equipment and to those building radio-related projects. The last Thursday of the month is often reserved as the 'Equipment Surgery and On The Air' evening, when the Society's radio station (GM3BSQ) is also in operation.
Regular meetings are on Thursday evenings and doors are open from around 18:30.
The Society meets at:
25th Scout Group Hall, Oakhill Crescent Lane (off Oakhill Road), Aberdeen. AB15 5HY
There is some parking on-site (but not on the grass!) and plenty of free on-road parking is also available nearby. Please note that the area adjacent to the wheelchair ramp is reserved for disabled parking ONLY.
